AFCON 2023: Ghana to camp in Johannesburg ahead of Ivory Coast tournament




The team's itinerary includes a 10-day stay in South Africa, where they will engage in a friendly match against Botswana on January 8, 2024. Subsequently, they will proceed to Abidjan, Ivory Coast for the AFCON tournament, which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.


The Black Stars will participate in a friendly match against Botswana on January 8, 2024, during their ten-day visit to South Africa. This match is an important part of their preparations before they travel to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, for the highly anticipated AFCON, which is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.


Head coach Chris Hughton intends to refine the team's approach, and as a part of this endeavor, training sessions in Johannesburg will remain inaccessible to the general public and media. The preliminary team, excluding the injured Kamaldeen Sulemana and Tariq Lamptey, who is still unavailable according to Brighton's evaluation of his injury condition, will gather in Johannesburg prior to the final team announcement on January 3rd.


The Black Stars have been assigned to Group B, where they will face strong adversaries such as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. They are preparing for highly competitive matches in the group stage. Their campaign commences with a match against Cape Verde on January 14, followed by a confrontation with Egypt on January 18, and ending the group stage with a match against Mozambique on January 22, 2024.
