Abu Kamoko, son of former Ghanaian boxer Brimah Kamoko, has raised accusations of favoritism against boxing officials after being excluded from Ghana's Olympic qualifiers in Paris.

The controversy emerges amidst Ghana's boxing squad, the Black Bombers, striving for qualification in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 25 to June 2, 2024, following disappointments in previous qualification attempts.

Ghana's boxing hopes suffered setbacks as all 12 boxers failed to secure qualification in separate Olympic qualification events held in Senegal and Italy. Despite efforts at the Olympic qualifiers in Senegal last September and Italy in March, none of the Ghanaian boxers managed to secure spots for the Games.

The upcoming Olympic qualifiers in Bangkok represent the last chance for the Ghanaian delegation to clinch their tickets to the event. However, Abu Kamoko, who recently won a silver medal at the African Games, has been notably absent from the Black Bombers' qualification squad, leading to allegations of biased selection by boxing authorities.

Abu, also known as Ambitious Tilapia, gained attention for his performance in the 86kg cruiserweight division final at the 2023 African Games, where he secured a silver medal after a competitive match against Algerian opponent Kanouni Ousama. Despite his recent success and aspirations to compete in the Olympics and pursue a professional boxing career, Abu finds himself sidelined from the Olympic qualification journey.

Expressing his frustration, Abu questioned the selection process, highlighting the inclusion of boxers like Jonathan Tetteh, who did not secure a medal at the African Games, over gold medalist Mohammed Aryeetey. This perceived disparity in treatment has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the transparency and fairness of the selection criteria employed by Ghana's boxing authorities.

Abu's exclusion from the Olympic qualification squad has not only stirred debate within Ghana's boxing community but also cast a spotlight on broader issues of fairness and accountability in sports administration.

Aspiring to represent his country on the Olympic stage, Abu's aspirations and grievances shed light on the complexities and challenges facing athletes striving for recognition and opportunity within competitive sporting landscapes.

With ambitions to compete in the Olympics and transition to professional boxing, Abu Kamoko's journey exemplifies the determination and resilience required to navigate the highs and lows of athletic pursuit. Despite facing setbacks and allegations of favoritism, Abu remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence, highlighting the importance of integrity and fairness in shaping the future of sports participation and representation.
