Eden Hazard Suggests Surprise Candidate for Chelsea Manager Role

Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has put forth a surprising candidate for the club’s next manager following Mauricio Pochettino’s recent departure.

Pochettino parted ways with Chelsea by mutual agreement after just one season. The Argentine guided the team to a sixth-place finish and a return to European competition.

As the club explores potential replacements, Hazard has suggested an unexpected option: his former teammate Cesc Fabregas. Hazard, who played for Chelsea from 2012 to 2019, believes Fabregas could be a suitable choice despite his lack of permanent managerial experience.

Fabregas, currently at Como in Italy, started as a player before transitioning to an interim managerial role in 2023 after Moreno Longo’s dismissal. He later became an assistant under new manager Osian Roberts.

When asked about Roberto De Zerbi, a candidate for the role, Hazard told talkSPORT: “Maybe. I have my friend also in Como. He can be the first manager.”

Reflecting on Pochettino’s exit, Hazard expressed his disappointment: “I was a bit sad, to be fair. I think he did a great job. I know people want Chelsea to be in the top four but it’s just a season of transition. He’s a great manager. I wish him good luck. Let’s see who’s going to be there in the future.”

This unexpected endorsement from Hazard brings a new name into the mix for Chelsea’s managerial search. Fabregas, known for his exceptional vision and midfield prowess, has had a distinguished playing career, but his coaching experience is still in its infancy. His transition from player to coach at Como has shown promise, but taking the helm at a club like Chelsea would be a significant step up.

The suggestion of Fabregas is intriguing given his deep understanding of the game and his connections within the football world. His familiarity with Chelsea’s culture and expectations, having been a key part of their success during his playing days, could provide a unique advantage. However, the club’s hierarchy will need to carefully consider whether his limited managerial experience is sufficient for the high-pressure environment of Premier League football.

As Chelsea continues its search for a new manager, other names are also being considered. Roberto De Zerbi, currently managing Brighton, has been mentioned as a potential candidate. Known for his attacking style and tactical acumen, De Zerbi has impressed in the Premier League, making him a viable option for the Blues.

Despite the various names being linked with the job, Hazard’s endorsement of Fabregas highlights the importance of considering diverse options, including those with strong connections to the club. Fabregas’s tactical knowledge, leadership qualities, and passion for the game are evident, but whether these attributes can translate into managerial success at the highest level remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Chelsea fans and football analysts alike will be keenly watching the developments. The decision on the next manager will be crucial for the club’s aspirations in the coming seasons. With a talented squad and a rich history of success, the right managerial appointment could steer Chelsea back to the top of English and European football.

Eden Hazard’s suggestion of Cesc Fabregas as a potential Chelsea manager adds an interesting dimension to the ongoing search. While Fabregas’s managerial experience is limited, his football intelligence and connection to the club make him an intriguing candidate. As Chelsea evaluates its options, the decision will ultimately hinge on finding the right blend of experience, vision, and leadership to guide the club forward.
