Football Fan Wins Court Case Against Government.

Augustine Oppong, a supporter of Asante Kotoko, who was shot in the eye four years ago at the Baba Yara stadium, has won a GHC600,000 case against the Ghana Police, Government, and NSA.

The Kumasi High Court's ruling on February 2nd, 2024, mandates the payment of GHC600,000 plus additional charges totaling GHC1 million. Augustine's lawyer, Sarfo Duku Esq, mentioned that failure to pay within the specified period may lead to the court permitting the sale of Government property to cover the amount. This marks a historic and landmark victory in Ghana sports.

The court's decision not only signifies justice for Augustine Oppong but also highlights the importance of accountability in ensuring the safety of sports enthusiasts. The ruling may prompt a reevaluation of security measures at sports events, emphasizing the responsibility of authorities to protect spectators.

As this case sets a precedent, it could contribute to a safer and more secure environment for fans attending sporting events in Ghana, promoting a positive change in the landscape of sports safety and spectator welfare.
