Kanayo O. Kanayo Vows to Act Until Age 90 Despite Challenges in Nollywood



Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his determination to continue acting well into his old age, highlighting challenges and his enduring passion for the craft.


Speaking on the upcoming episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, co-hosted by Nedu, Husband Material, and Deit Cole, the 62-year-old actor emphasized his commitment to acting even as he ages. He lamented the influx of individuals, particularly women, into Nollywood who lack genuine acting talent, suggesting they pursue other careers if acting isn't innate to them.


"Many girls are desperate to act. You don’t come to Nollywood to learn how to act. Acting is in-built. If it’s not in you, go and sell crayfish," Kanayo remarked candidly. He expressed his desire to remain active in the industry well into his senior years, envisioning himself acting at 70, 75, 80, and even 90 years old.


The seasoned actor also voiced concerns about the influence of drug abuse and homosexuality within Nollywood, suggesting these issues have permeated the industry. He called for a renewal of values and professionalism among practitioners to uphold the integrity of Nollywood.


Kanayo O. Kanayo began his acting career in 1982 with the Nigerian Television Authority and made his debut in the iconic movie "Living in Bondage" in 1992. Since then, he has appeared in over 200 movies, solidifying his status as a veteran in the Nigerian film industry.
