Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles has been diagnosed with a type of cancer.

During his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, the type of cancer was detected; however, it is not prostate cancer. The exact nature of the cancer has not been disclosed.

The palace announced that the king will delay public obligations as he begins "regular treatments" on Monday.

A 75-year-old monarch "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," according to it.

There has been no update regarding the cancer's stage or prognosis.

The Prince of Wales reportedly had frequent touch with his father, Charles, and he personally notified both of his sons of his diagnosis.

Prince Harry, who resides in the US and now the Duke of Sussex, has spoken with his father and is planning to visit him in the UK soon.

According to the palace, the King has begun outpatient therapy after returning to London on Monday morning from Sandringham in Norfolk.

The King will continue to fulfill his constitutional duties as head of state, including paperwork and private meetings, even if he will temporarily suspend his public activities.

It is known that he would continue to meet with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in person for weekly engagements until his physicians tell him to reduce such interaction.

When a head of state is physically or mentally incapable of performing official duties, the constitution provides for the appointment of "counsellors of state" to fill the void.
