Kwaku Boahen Criticizes Government's Handling of Labor Unrest

Former Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, Kwaku Boahen, has launched a scathing critique against President Akufo-Addo amid the current labor unrest in the country.

Speaking on TV XYZ's Inside Politics, Boahen expressed his dissatisfaction, claiming that the government has shown insensitivity towards the struggles faced by workers and the general Ghanaian population.

"In the midst of soaring prices for fuel and food, burdened by numerous taxes, the government's inability to improve the working conditions of public workers has led to the current strike," Boahen stated emphatically.

He urged the striking workers to persist in their demands for better conditions until the government addresses their concerns.

The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWUG) is currently on strike, primarily focusing on the payment of their Tier-two pension. This strike, which commenced on February 1, 2024, highlights the government's failure to address various issues, including welfare needs, vehicle maintenance allowance, and overtime allowance.

As part of their protest, TEWUG has withdrawn various essential services, including environmental cleaning, classroom setup, security provision, and hospital services. Boahen contends that the union's actions are a necessary response to the government's deliberate imposition of hardship on them and believes that they should have taken such measures sooner.
