Preparations for AFCON 2023: Black Stars Set Up Camp in Kumasi Despite Botswana Friendly Cancellation

It was originally planned that the four-time African winners would camp in South Africa from December 31, 2023. Instead, they will be in Kumasi, Ghana, starting on Tuesday, January 2, 2023.

This choice was made after a review meeting of the Black Stars' Management and Technical Team. The technical team asked for a training space that was quieter and farther away, which is what caused the move.

It has been decided that the international friendly match against Botswana on Monday, January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg will not happen because of the change in plans.

As part of getting ready for the event, which starts on January 13, 2024, Ghana FA is looking for a replacement opponent for the team.

The public and the journalists will not be able to attend the training sessions in Kumasi, but they will be able to attend one session. There will also be a news conference after the friendly match. The Association has asked people to understand and support the move, saying that it is needed to make sure the Black Stars do well while they are camping.

Ghana is in the same group as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. On Sunday, January 14, they will play their first game against Cape Verde. On January 18, they will play Egypt, and on January 22, they will play Mozambique.
