Serbian Coach Goran Stevanovic Eyes Return as Black Stars Head Coach

Former Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Ghana national team coaching position. This move comes on the heels of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) parting ways with Chris Hughton due to the team's lackluster performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 57-year-old Serbian tactician, with a previous stint as the Black Stars' head coach from 2011 to 2012, has reportedly expressed keen interest in guiding the team once again. Stevanovic boasts a notable track record, having led Ghana to the semifinals of the continental showpiece during his earlier tenure.

Sources indicate that Stevanovic has formally submitted his coaching application to the GFA, hoping to secure a second spell with the national team. His extensive coaching experience spans various clubs, including Cukaricki Partizan and Qingdao Jonoon, adding depth to his candidacy.

Ghana's disappointing exit from the 2023 AFCON, failing to secure a victory in the group stage and finishing third in Group B behind Cape Verde and Egypt, has prompted the GFA to actively seek a new coach.

The application deadline for coaching submissions is set for February 2, 2024, adding anticipation to the unfolding narrative of who will take the reins of the Black Stars.
