Tems Describes Ugandan Prison Ordeal as a Blessing in Disguise

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has described her time in a Ugandan prison as a blessing in disguise. The 'Crazy Things' crooner revealed that she felt honored to have experienced prison, as it gave her a unique perspective on the lives of prisoners.

Tems explained that her prison experience was humbling and enlightening. “Prison was once in a lifetime experience that I actually feel honored to have had because otherwise, I would never have thought about these people, and to be in their presence was very humbling,” Tems told ES Magazine.

The ordeal occurred in December 2020 when Tems and fellow Nigerian artist Omah Lay were arrested and charged in Uganda for participating in a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala. The concert violated COVID-19 social distancing regulations, leading to their subsequent detention. They were eventually granted bail after spending two nights in jail.

Tems' reflective outlook on the experience highlights her empathy and the broader awareness she gained from the situation. Her ability to see the positive aspects of such a challenging experience speaks volumes about her character and perspective on life.
