Family of Three-Year-Old Victim Vows to Fight for Justice in LilWin Accident Case

The family of a three-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in an accident involving popular actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin, have declared their determination to seek justice and warned against any attempts to undermine their cause.

In an interview on Angel FM, a family member expressed their resolve, emphasizing that their pursuit of justice should not be underestimated. "He thinks he is dealing with a bunch of poor people... we have taken this matter very seriously. Some utterances by his PRO (Public Relations Officer) led a presenter to caution me against being paid off, and I told him that everyone who knows our family in Kumasi knows that we are not destitute or hungry people," stated the uncle of the deceased child.

He further added, "If you look at the Nyarko Towers where we live, that is just a small place we have rented in town, we travel home on weekends. So if they think they are dealing with some weak people that they can bully, they should be careful."

The incident has left the family devastated and determined to ensure that justice is served. LilWin was granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court in Kumasi on Monday, June 3, 2024, following his arrest by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command. The arrest came shortly after his discharge from the hospital.

The tragic accident occurred when the vehicle driven by LilWin crashed into another, leading to the death of three-year-old Nana Yaw. The bereaved family has been vocal about their quest for justice, with the police explaining that the delay in LilWin's arrest was due to his medical condition.

Currently under investigation, LilWin faces charges of dangerous driving and causing harm through negligence. Despite the delay attributed to his health, his lawyer, Margaret Adjei-Twum, successfully argued for his bail. She cited LilWin's injuries, including internal bleeding, and emphasized the necessity of bail for his continued medical treatment.

Adjei-Twum assured the court of LilWin's commitment to facing the legal proceedings, highlighting his popularity in Ghana and the unlikelihood of him fleeing. The defense also expressed concerns about the police rushing the case to court before LilWin had fully recuperated. The court has adjourned the case to June 27, 2024.

Background of the Incident

Weeks before the court appearance, LilWin was reportedly driving at high speed when he collided with the vehicle carrying little Nana Yaw and his father, Jacob Kofi Ampomah. Both victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where the young boy succumbed to his injuries.

The family's grief has been compounded by their frustration with the legal process and the perceived insensitivity of some involved parties. The uncle of the deceased emphasized their strength and resilience, underscoring that their pursuit of justice is not a matter of financial desperation but a quest for accountability and the prevention of future tragedies.

Community Reactions

The tragic death of Nana Yaw has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting widespread calls for justice. Residents and community leaders have rallied behind the bereaved family, urging the authorities to ensure a thorough and fair investigation. The case has also sparked a broader conversation about road safety and the responsibilities of public figures.

Legal Proceedings

As the case proceeds, the legal teams on both sides prepare for the upcoming court date. The prosecution aims to establish LilWin's culpability in the accident, while the defense will likely continue to highlight his health issues and commitment to complying with legal requirements.

The family's determination to fight for justice serves as a poignant reminder of the deep personal impacts of road accidents and the ongoing need for accountability and road safety awareness. The outcome of this case will be closely watched by many, both for its legal implications and its broader message about justice and responsibility.

In the meantime, the community mourns the loss of young Nana Yaw, with tributes and support pouring in for his grieving family. The case underscores the importance of addressing the human costs behind legal proceedings and the imperative to pursue justice with compassion and diligence.

As the June 27 court date approaches, all eyes will be on the Asokore Mampong District Court, where the next steps in this tragic and complex case will unfold.
