Chairman Wontumi appears before the Kumasi Traditional Council

The chairman of the Ashanti Regional NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiko, has been called before the Kumasi Traditional Council in connection with purported disparaging comments directed at the Asantehene.

Prior to the recently concluded primaries, the aforementioned remarks were made during the NPP vetting of candidates for parliamentary office.

Among the government officials present were Stephen Ntim, the chairman of the NPP party; Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the majority leader; and the chairman, who is fondly known as Wontumi.

At the hearing, the case's Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Duah, spoke to the traditional council as an eyewitness to the vetting process.

There was no disparagement of Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II in Bernard Antwi Boasiko's remarks, he said.

He denied the accusation and said it inaccurately portrayed his message. Mr. Antwi Boasiako and the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, got into an argument during the recent screening of Ashanti Region parliamentary candidates, and this is the latest turn of events.

Despite Chairman Wontumi's denials, the traditional council nonetheless invited him to a hearing, which he declined to attend due to health reasons.

After the NPP national leadership asked the Council for additional time, they were told to make sure that Chairman Wontumi showed up within a week.
