Zapp Mallet Issues Apology After Criticizing Afua Asantewaa’s Singathon Effort Following Social Media Backlash

Renowned Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Zapp Mallet, found himself in hot waters after expressing doubts about Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s ability to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.

As Asantewaa embarked on this ambitious journey, receiving widespread support from notable figures in the Ghanaian entertainment scene, Zapp Mallet took a different stance, casting doubt on her chances of success.

Zapp took to his X page to share his thoughts on the ongoing singing marathon and questioned Asantewaa’s strategy and vocal capabilities, he remarked, “Even professional singers won’t attempt a feat like this without a voice coach around to be coaching what to do. No strategy. Just play, I will sing.”

He went on to express concern about her voice, suggesting she needed guidance to avoid fatigue and maintain pitch.

These remarks quickly ignited a backlash from netizens, who expressed disappointment in Zapp Mallet’s unexpected skepticism.

One commenter highlighted the dissonance between Zapp’s professional reputation and the seemingly harsh criticism, stating, “Though there are going to be naysayers around everything you do in life, some of us didn’t expect you on this side, Uncle. With your reputation, your silence could have been louder.”

Feeling the heat from the online community, Zapp Mallet has finally come out to issue a public apology today, December 27, 2023.

In his statement, he acknowledged his misjudgment and asked for forgiveness, saying, “Guys, guys, guys, I’m so, so sorry. I just realized I was judging Afua Asantewaa so hard. Plz forgive me. I didn’t know the rules. But I said some of the things out of concern for her. Pls don’t get me wrong. I’m behind her just like every Ghanaian.”
